Getting There

“Getting there is half the adventure”

Embarking on a journey to the captivating island of Camiguin begins with a flight to CGY - Cagayan de Oro (Laguindingan International Airport) Since this airport serves domestic routes exclusively for now, there is typically a layover at MNL - Manila (Ninoy Aquino International Airport), which happens to be the most convenient international gateway in the Philippines. Alternatively, you can also choose CEB - Cebu (Mactan-Cebu International Airport) as an option.

When making your travel arrangements, consider spending a night in Cagayan de Oro. Flight schedules often don’t align for same-day onward travel to Camiguin, so an overnight stay provides a smoother transition.

From Cagayan de Oro, it is approximately a 2-3 hour drive (via private car or van) from Cagayan de Oro to the Port of Balingoan, the Ferry to the Port of Benoni (Camiguin) takes anywhere from 45mins on a fast ferry, to 1hr 15mins on a slower ferry. The ferry route you need to take is Balingoan Port (Mindanao) to Benoni Port (Camiguin Island) plan to depart Cagayn de Oro 9 or 10am, and aim to be at the Port of Balingoan around midday, do not leave it until last minute in the afternoon as sometimes the ferries get cancelled later on in the day. Tickets for the ferries are easily purchased at the port, you will typically have 2-3 fee's alongside the actual ferry fare for various port fees - ensure you have cash as they do not take card.

When catching the Ferry you will need to supply a QR code to scan - prepare this before getting to the port to save hassle and poor internet coverage making it slow, this is a requirement by Camiguin Island, you can create that via this link: https://islevisitcamiguin.com/

Philippine Airlines
Full Service - Most direct from Perth, Western Australia with only 1 stop in Manila, however they also only fly from Perth to Manila currently 3 times/week (Mon, Thu, Sat) so timing can be difficult.
Singapore Airlines
Full Service - Stops in Singapore enroute to Manila, you can then pair with one of the flights from Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific to fly onward to Cagayan De Oro.
Cebu Pacific
Combining flights from Scoot & Cebu Pacific is also possible, just remember there are more stops, and both are low cost carriers, so they are cheaper, but you also get almost nothing but a carry on bag included. Also, it has been our experience that while Cebu Pacific is fine, they do tend to cancel flights at a moments notice and it can be difficult to re-book quickly if you have an onward flight.
Fast Cover Travel Insurance
Recommended, we have used & claimed without issue with Fast Cover in the past. Make sure you read the PDS and that it suits your specific circumstances. They are also one of the only with valid cover for this destination - including the transiting through Cagayan De Oro. Follow the link above for a $5 discount on your policy.
Smartraveller
As with any travel, it's reccomended to register on Smartraveller and keep the details handy for any emergencies.
